General Information
The L85A2 is, at most, a four-shot kill (4SK) to a target at any range, having one of the highest mininum damage values for an assault rifle. Its recoil is a mixed amount of moderate vertical recoil and high horizontal recoil, though it is controllable with attachments.
The L85A2’s rate of fire (RoF) is 700 rounds per minute (RPM), which is average for its class—this allows it to not expend ammunition too quickly, with a decent tactical reload, but a slow empty reload.
Usage & Tactics
The L85A2 is not a weapon oriented for close-quarters-combat (CQC)—its RoF is not as high as the AS VAL or FAMAS F1, and only dealing a 4SK makes the time to kill (TTK) up close somewhat mediocre, being on par with the AK12. However, at medium to longer ranges, the L85 shines in being able to deal a 4SK at any range, rivaling some designated marksman rifles and light machine guns. It can become a pseudo-DMR with the advantage of being able to fire in full-auto, however, spraying down targets at long range is likely to result in a large amount of ammunition being wasted. Tap-firing is more effective at such distances, and being able to fire faster than most DMRs on semi-auto does give it an edge, albeit the slower muzzle velocity means that DMRs are likely to outclass it at very long distances.
As mentioned above, the L85A2 has some significant horizontal recoil. A Compensator is rather helpful in mitigating the horizontal recoil, making the weapon more accurate and easier to control. This allows the L85A2 to be fired in fully-automatic at longer ranges and still remain on target. The default suppressor is also a decent choice for stealth builds, given there is no reduction in the shots to kill (STK) at any distance, although at longer ranges the reduced muzzle velocity will hamper the L85’s effectiveness.
It is best to avoid, or at least minimize CQC, given the mediocre TTK of the weapon. If unavoidable, a secondary ideal for CQC such as the TEC-9 is helpful to have, giving the user the ability to compete in closer-ranged gunfights. It is certainly possible to outplay the enemy in CQC with the L85A2, but staying at medium range with the L85A2 will yield better results, as most weapons begin to experience their damage drop-off at such distances.
Conclusion
The L85A2 is an all-rounder weapon, despite its average CQC performance and moderate overall recoil without attachments. Furthermore, it can take on some DMRs in mid-range combat, and outranges many of its class.

- If one looks at the IL 86 texture file, one can see that there is a radiation symbol (or sticker) on the SUSAT Scope, in front and at the bottom because of the scope’s tritium lining.
- This weapon’s poor durability in the games corresponds with the earlier versions of the L85 in real-life, which had very questionable reliability until it was revised by Heckler & Koch.
- The model in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series includes the green plastic dust cover on the end of the barrel, this would obviously be removed for firing – underneath is a five-slotted muzzle break/flash suppressor.
- In Shadow of Chernobyl, when the player runs while holding the weapon, if they look down they can see a grenade launcher, even though the weapon doesn’t have one attached and cannot attach one.

SA80 is of a bullpup configuration. It has a simple fire selector with two settings; single and auto. The SA80 is compatible with any STANAG standard magazine. It is fitted with a bayonet lug. Full-sized versions of SA80 can be fitted with the AG36 underbarrel grenade launcher (which reportedly enhances the somewhat poor balance of the weapon).
All SA80 rifles are equipped with SUSAT sights upon shipping. According to operator reports, SUSAT tritium sights are one of the best features of this firearm. Alternatively, the SA80 is equipped with a bladed front sight, and a diopter rear sight that also functions as a built in carrying handle — this configuration is usually used by second-line troops. However it must be noted that this weapon performs very well in CQB situations as it can be brought up to the sight line easily and quickly, which is useful when the urban nature of a battle means shots have to be taken in seconds.
Some reports of component failure in the original design have been noted, such as the cocking handle falling off, rendering the weapon useless or other bits and pieces to come loose. Another problem is that the SA80 is heavier than many other 5.56×45mm NATO rifles. Of particular annoyance was the habit of the magazine of A1 variants to fall out of the rifle when held across the chest due to the location of the release. British soldiers have, on occasion in the past, demanded alternate weapons such as the G36 or weapons of the M16 family. There was been some speculation that the UK would replace the SA80 with the G36 or a similar weapon, but this was dispelled by the improvement programme undertaken by H&K (which updated almost all rifles to the improved A2 variant) which solved most issues and has made the rifle into one of the most reliable weapon systems in the world.
History
The L85A2 is a British bullpup assault rifle configured for the 5.56×45mm NATO round. It is part of the British SA80 (Small Arms for the 1980s) rifle family and is the last in the extremely long line of British weapons (including the iconic Lee-Enfield family) produced by the Royal Small Arms Factory in Enfield.
Produced from the 1980s to the mid-1990s, the L85 rifles include a slotted flash suppressor (not included in-game), which serves as a mounting point for attaching and launching rifle grenades, a blank-firing adapter (Used In Combat Training), an optic mounting system for a carry handle or the standard SUSAT (Sight Unit Small Arms, Trilux) or various other optics with adapter mount. Additionally, a 40mm under-barrel grenade launcher can be attached to this rifle. There were many modifications to this weapon since its introduction, and currently two variants, the L22 carbine and L86 LSW, which are both featured in-game.
The L85A2’s predecessor, the L85A1, had multiple problems with accuracy, reliability, the lack of an ambidextrous firing port, and poor quality control. After a substantial public outcry, hundreds of thousands of the L85A1s were shipped to Heckler & Koch to be improved. H&K was able to fix most of the problems with the rifles. Those upgraded by H&K were designated the L85A2, and remain the standard British service rifle to this day. As of 2018, these rifles are being upgraded once more by H&K to L85A3s.

Данный фактор, вкупе с большим весом и низкой надёжностью, делает её малопригодной для долговременного использования в глубинных участках Зоны. Однако для быстрых вылазок в конкретный сектор с последующим возвращением на базу оружие подходит почти идеально.
Избежать серьёзного разброса пуль при ведении автоматического огня можно (даже без полной прокачки точности стрельбы) простым выставлением режима одиночного огня. В итоге каждый произведенный в этом режиме выстрел будет производиться намного точнее, из-за чего кучность стрельбы несколько возрастёт. В ЧН после полного апгрейда на точность прицельная дальность становится приблизительно 70 метров, что переводит это оружие из класса штурмовых в класс снайперских винтовок (см. дистанция среднего и дальнего боя). Однако при серьёзном износе оружия этот метод перестаёт работать. В целом, данная хитрость относится к большинству огнестрельного оружия, даже снайперского.
В ЧН и ЗП данную винтовку можно переделать под патрон 5,45х39, но без надобности этого лучше не делать, так как переделка весьма негативно сказывается на износостойкости, убойности и настильности оружия. ИЛ86 — единственная винтовка в ЗП, которую можно переделать под патроны 5,45×39 мм, а также одна из немногих имеет возможность установки глушителя (на «СГИ-5к Стрелка» и ТРс-301 он также ставится) и смены «западного» калибра на широко распространённый на Затоне и в окрестностях «Юпитера» отечественный 5,45х39. В ЗП в сетевой игре можно повесить подствольник на оружие, но в одиночной игре это невозможно.
Strategies
Using
- The use of this weapon is similar to the Mk 12 SPR. The L86A2 has a bigger magazine and does more damage than it while having a slightly slower fire rate.
- Using this weapon at a long-range with a good scope like the 8x is deadly, as you can dodge out of your opponents’ scope and also pick people off easily.
Countering
- This is one of the most powerful weapons in-game as it could shred an unarmed player in seconds, so try to avoid users of it as much as possible if you are a beginner.
- Using a powerful sniper rifle like the AWM-S or the Mosin-Nagant at long range will work if you are an experienced user with good aim.
- The M1 Garand’s higher DPS and accuracy can shred the L86A2 faster. The SVD-63 can also work for this but it is harder because the DPS is lower.
- Getting up close with a Shotgun or a high damaging SMG
Melee Weapons for the same reason are also very effective, as the barrel of the L86A2 will simply miss the target as you attack them at very close range.
is also a good alternative, due to their high damage.
- Moving erratically while attacking them, as it is a single shot and most of their shots will be guessed.
- Try to stay as far away from them as possible while attacking, because the closer you are the higher the chance of them hitting you.
- Move-in a zig-zag pattern to lower their changes to hit you, and either uses a high-damage or high fps SMG or your Melee to kill them, as the weapon is long and you can dodge under it.

- The icon looks very similar to the QBB-97.
- It’s the second 5.56mm DMR in the game, with the Mk 12 SPR being first.
- The L86A2 was originally designed as an LSW (LMG). In fact, the weapon is designated as the L86A2 LSW. As such, it was designed with full-auto fire in mind and has the option to fire on full-auto in real life. The weapon shifted into a DMR role in the British Army due to its long barrel producing good range, and due to the L110 light machine gun pushing it out of the squad support weapon role.

Разработкой занялась Royal Small Arms Factory (впоследствии переименованная в Royal Ordnance). За основу была взята схема, фактически продолжившая линию EM-2.
С 1974 года разработка велась под специально созданный патрон 4,85×49 мм, но после принятия странами НАТО патрона 5,56×45 (SS109), оба образца были перепроектированы под него. В результате появились 5,56 мм система SA-80, включающая автомат L85A1 и ручной пулемёт L86A1, причём 80 % их узлов и деталей взаимозаменяемы. Сила отдачи гораздо меньше, чем у образцов большего калибра, что упрощает процесс обучения и уменьшает увод ствола при стрельбе. Устройство затворной группы, схемы запирания и газоотвода позаимствовано у американского автомата AR-18.
В 1986 году был выпущен третий образец семейства — укороченный автомат SA-80 «Карабин» с укороченным стволом и дополнительной передней рукояткой удержания на кронштейне под стволом. Кроме того, был разработан учебный вариант «Супер Энсайн», отличающийся отсутствием системы автоматики, кривошипно-шатунным механизмом рукоятки взведения и механическим прицелом.
В связи с рядом недостатков, в том числе и с низкой надёжностью автомата в 2000 году немецкая фирма Heckler & Koch получила заказ на его модернизацию. В результате британская армия получила L85A2, который был значительно доработан, и жалобы (по заявлению разработчиков) на «капризность» и ненадёжность прекратились.
В августе 2018 года министерство обороны Великобритании объявило о намерении снять с вооружения L86 LSW в 2019 году.
PrototypesEdit
- XL64 IW — An experimental 4.85mm-calibre assault rifle that was prototyped in the mid-1960s at Enfield. It took some design cues from the earlier EM-2 rifle and the ArmaLite AR-18. The XL64 project was cancelled, mainly because the 4.85mm calibre was overshadowed by 5.56 ammunition.
- XL65 LSW — The light machine gun variant of the XL64 IW. It was scrapped along with the XL64 when NATO opted for 5.56 ammunition rather than 4.85mm.
- XL70E3 — Enfield tried again to produce a bullpup service rifle after the failure of the 4.85mm cartridge. In the 1970’s, they produced the XL70E3. The XL70E3 was very similar to the XL64 IW, but re-chambered for 5.56 ammunition to meet the demands of NATO. Design issues meant that it needed more time to be improved, resulting in the birth of the SA80, or L85A1 service rifle.
- XL73E2 — The light machine gun variant of the XL70E3. It was improved upon in later years and the final product was the L86 Light Support Weapon.

Описание
SA-80 основана на классической автоматике на основе отвода пороховых газов из канала ствола через газовую камеру, расположенную над стволом. Газовый регулятор имеет три положения: для обычной стрельбы (нормальное открытие); для стрельбы в неблагоприятных условиях (широкое открытие) и для стрельбы винтовочной гранатой (газоотводное отверстие закрыто). Газовый поршень выполнен отдельно, имеет короткий ход и собственную возвратную пружину. При отходе газовый поршень открывает четыре отверстия в трубке газовой камеры, через которые пороховые газы выходят в атмосферу, для чего служат также вырезы в ствольной накладке. Таким образом обеспечивается использование только той части энергии пороховых газов, которая необходима для работы автоматики.
Данный автомат обладает высокой точностью стрельбы одиночными, а также очередями по 2 выстрела. При ведении одиночной стрельбы группами по пять одиночных выстрелов на дальность 100 и 300 м срединное отклонение составляет соответственно 77 и 150 мм.

Запирание ствола — традиционным поворотным затвором, имеющим 7 боевых упоров, за вкладыш ствольной коробки. Затворная рама перемещается внутри ствольной коробки на двух направляющих стержнях, не касаясь стенок, возвратная пружина расположена посередине между стрежнями и выше их. Рукоятка взведения зафиксирована на затворной раме справа и движется при стрельбе. На винтовках серии L85A1 рукоятка заряжания служила источником серьезных проблем, так как при стрельбе стреляные гильзы зачастую отражались от рукоятки обратно в ствольную коробку, вызывая задержки при стрельбе. Для решения этой проблемы на винтовках L85A2 конфигурация рукоятки заряжания была изменена. Вырез в ствольной коробке для движения рукоятки заряжания закрыт подпружиненной крышкой для защиты автоматики винтовки от пыли и грязи. Выброс стреляных гильз осуществляется только на правую сторону оружия.
Ствольная коробка — штампованная из листовой стали, с приклепанными и приваренными изнутри силовыми элементами. Ударно-спусковой механизм курковый, имеет предохранитель в виде поперечной кнопки над спусковой скобой и переводчик режимов огня на левой стенке ствольной коробки, позади приемника магазинов. Режимы огня — одиночные выстрелы и очереди произвольной длины.Питание винтовки осуществляется из магазинов на 30 патронов, совместимых с магазинами винтовки М16 (стандарт НАТО). Один из характерных недостатков L85A1 — слишком тонкие стенки горловины приемника магазинов, из-за чего они могут быть легко погнуты, что опять таки выведет оружие из строя. В варианте L85A2 этот недостаток исправлен, кроме того, повышена и надежность работы самих магазинов.
History
The L86A1 LSW («Light Support Weapon») is a magazine-fed automatic weapon originally intended to provide fire support at a fire-team level. It has a longer barrel than the L85A1 rifle, a bipod, shoulder strap and rear pistol grip, together with a shorter handguard. The extended barrel provides an increased muzzle velocity and further stabilizes the bullet, giving a greater effective range. The weapon is otherwise identical to the L85 version on which it is based, and the same 30-round magazine and sighting systems are reused here. Like the L85 rifle, it has a fire mode selector on the left side of the magazine housing, enabling either single shots or fully-automatic fire.
The L86A1 was plagued by the same problems as its base version, the L85A1 rifle. In fact, the L86A1 was more suitable as a semi-automatic para-sniper rifle rather than an LSW/LMG, due to the poor reliability in full automatic fire, relatively small (by machine guns standards) magazine capacity and the lack of quick-detachable barrels. Current British troops prefer the much heavier and belt-fed 7.62×51mm L7A1 GPMG (a license-built copy of Belgian FN MAG general purpose machine gun), and at the present time, the existing stocks of L86A1 are complemented with the 5.56×45mm FN Minimi belt-fed LMG in the short-barreled Para configuration. The L86A1 will be used mostly as a longer-range aimed fire weapons, while the suppressive fire functions will be conducted using more effective FN Minimi. All L86A1s were later upgraded to A2 versions, at the same time all L85s became the A2 version. Many units of British army use the L86 as a designated marksman rifle.

- The L86 LSW is incorrectly categorized as a light machine gun in-game. In real life, it is categorized as a light support weapon, as the name implies.
- In real life, the L86 LSW, like all SA80 weapons, is usually equipped with the SUSAT optic in service to make it more effective at range.
- In real life, the L86 LSW has a firerate of 700 RPM. The lower in-game firerate of 610 RPM was most likely applied for balance reasons.
